We have 2 classes in Year 5, 5:1 Finch and 5:2 Nightingale. We are really looking forward to working with you all this year and hope that the information on this page will reassure you about the procedures and expectations of life in Year 5.

Read your book every evening and quiz, a minimum of once a week
Complete your spelling activity sheet during the week - look, say, cover, write, check
Log on to TT Rockstars - a minumum of 20 minutes a week
Complete homework to a high standard - handed out Friday, returned by the following Friday
A positive "can do" atttitude - Learn from mistakes
To become more independent
Display excellent behaviour
To take responsibility for your belongings - including planner, homework and reading book
Demonstrate our school values

We expect you to GET TO SCHOOL ON TIME
We use registration to practice spelling and give out notices
Latecomers can feel unsettled and distrupt the learning of others
We START lessons at 9.00am
Attendance is VITAL for progress and wellbeing

Reading
We love reading in Year 5, and as well as Guided Reading in our English lessons (stories, poems, play scripts, instructions, articles, explanations and reports), we read in other curriculum subjects, we have half an hour timetabled in the Library each week and we set aside time each day to just read for pleasure!

Knowledge Organisers
We use Knowledge Organisers in our lessons. They include what we will learn, what the key facts are that will become “sticky knowledge”, where to get help, key vocabulary, recommended reading linked to the topic and the skills you will develop.

Transition Support Project for Calderdale Primary Schools
