Timekeeping and Attendance
Timekeeping and Attendance
It is really important that your child attends school every day as teaching moves on quickly and children who do not attend will miss out on important concepts. It is also important that your child attends at the correct time as it is really unsettling for children to come into school late.
School starts at 08:50 please make sure that they are in the playground for this time.

Uniform, PE and Swimming

It is important that we all wear the correct uniform, please refer to School Uniform (Parents & Carers menu tab)

4:2 Kesterl - February to July
On a swimming day, children should come to school in uniform and bring:
- A towel
- Swimsuit (boy’s shorts should be above the knee and not baggy)
- Goggles (optional)
A letter will be sent out during the year with further information about how swimming lessons work.
Water Bottles
It is really important that children attend school with a water bottle every day. Keeping hydrated helps children concentrate and maintain focus during their lessons. It also helps to keep them healthy!

Homework
Homework
Reading
Please read with your child every day at home and remember to sign the reading record book, including a comment to say how your child has managed. Reading books need to be brought to school daily so that they can be changed regularly.
Handwriting
Children will be sent home with handwriting homework in order to ensure that they are getting regularly practise and feedback.
Times Table Rock Stars
Children need to be playing Times Table Rock Stars for 5 minutes daily. This increases their times table speeds and helps with pace in maths lessons.
Maths/English
Children will also be set one piece of maths or English homework.

Times Tables Rock Stars
Times Tables Rock Stars
Children need to be playing Times Table Rock Stars for 5 minutes daily. This increases their times table speeds and helps with pace in maths lessons.
The children have to take part in a statutory online multiplication test in June. This involves 25 questions on 2 to 12 times tables. Children are given 6 seconds per question with a 3 second rest in between. It is so important that children are practising their times tables using Times Table Rock Stars to get them used to the online format.
The best way to prepare for the test is by playing TT Rockstars. It has a variety of games which test both accuracy and recall times.

Reading
Reading
We love reading in Year 4! Each classroom has a selection of books that children can borrow and return whenever they like. Some books link to topics we have covered in class but most are just for fun! There is always a variety of fiction, non-fiction and poetry and some children are even kind enough to donate their much-loved books from home so other children can enjoy them too.
Children are also expected to complete an Accelerated Reading quiz every week on their reading book. This is designed to check whether children are understanding what they are reading. The library has a varied selection of AR books to choose from and the children enjoy collecting points from their quizzes towards their reading certificates.
Homework: Please read with your child every day at home and remember to sign the reading record book, including a comment to say how your child has managed. Reading books need to be brought to school daily so that they can be changed regularly.

Class Representatives
Class Representatives
In each class, we have two school councillors and two behaviour ambassadors:
School Councillors
The role of the school councillors is to be a representative for their class. They take any problems or questions from their classes to school council meetings held by Mrs Richmond Flinn.
Previous school councillors have said:
“We go to meetings and listen to messages from Mrs Richmond-Flinn. Then we deliver them to our class.”
“It is fun and helpful for other children and helps make the school a better place.”
Behaviour Ambassadors
Behaviour ambassadors are changed each half-term. The teachers in Year 4 will choose children they think display good behaviour consistently and who are role models to others. Then it is their responsibility to choose a behaviour star at the end of each day (who is awarded a medal!)
Previous behaviour ambassadors have said:
“It makes you feel proud because you know you have been chosen for a reason. I loved it so much. I hope I am a behaviour ambassador again next year.”
