World Smile Day 2025 - wear yellow with uniform (voluntary £1 donation!)

Dear Parents/Carers
On Friday 4th October we will be celebrating World Smile Day in school.
Throughout the day we will be taking part in lots of activities – including making
Smile Day bunting and Smile Day posters which will be used to brighten up our
school entrance areas and show how important kindness is to us all at
Longroyde.
In KS1, adults will award certificates to children they see demonstrating kindness during the day.
In KS2, the teacher will pick their “Smashing Smiler” for the day who will be awarded a badge in assembly.
As usual, we are inviting pupils to wear something yellow on this day or something yellow with your school
uniform. It could be a yellow T-shirt, yellow shoes or something small like yellow ribbons in hair.
Please do not feel that anything special has to be bought for the day.
We are respectfully asking for a voluntary £1 donation this year which you can make through School Money.
We are inviting parents and carers to email admin@longroyde.calderdale.sch.uk messages to let us know
what about your child makes you smile – you could even ask your child what it is about school that makes
them smile and share that with us too. Please email them by Thursday 3rd October so that we can share
them with everyone on Smile Day.
We wish everyone in our school community a Happy Smile Day!!

Harvey Ross Ball, the inventor of the Smiley, thought that all of us should devote one day each
year to smiles and kind acts – hence his idea for World Smile Day.
"If our children learn early the power of a smile and a kind act the whole world will be a
better place. It doesn't have to cost anything to celebrate World Smile Day®. The act of
kindness is the celebration."
Charles Ball, President of The Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation.
